The big news in social media right now is the rebranding of Twitter from the lovable Twitter Bird to a pretty drab looking X. 

Besides questions arising around fair use of the name X (which Microsoft has tied up with the Xbox product line, Facebook has a potential legal claim for X branding pertaining to social media also, and possibly others), the rebranding of a 17-year-old iconic and well-known brand has many folks shaking their heads in bewilderment.

What is Elon thinking now? Well, that’s a question we’ll never have an answer for!

The important thing is how you use the social channels you select to grow and improve your business and digital presence and finding what works best for social selling. 

You know I love Twitter, and so I’m excited about some of the new directions the platform is embracing. Audio and video, as you probably can guess, are what’s really got me jazzed, but you may find many other changes beneficial, too. 

Things like “Communities” on Twitter and new Professional Profiles with the additional link box feature to enable mobile users to immediately tap a map to a physical location or hit an icon to dial a phone number directly with a click! 

If your business is digital only, simply select to send people to a specific URL, say, maybe like me, to your YouTube channel. You can even place an appropriate icon there! Snazzy, right?

And something else, too. X is currently offering advertising at 50% off to reignite interest in ads and, they say, democratize the advertising landscape, making Twitter accessible to smaller businesses to leverage.

Less ad spend per X means more for companies to allocate to creativity 

and content.

Despite hearing of dwindling Twitter activity and usage, the data I’m seeing proves the opposite. This chart shows Twitter usage at the height of the so-called Threads takeover:

And speaking of Threads, Meta’s answer to take down Twitter or at least replace it, enjoyed a robust start. But Threads already seem to have slowed to a trickle. And people don’t like the privacy concerns and being locked in through the golden key to admittance, your Instagram account. 

My best advice? Consider how much time you need to spend to build and effectively use a new (or another) social platform. 

Ask what exact goals and expectations are probable in spending the extra time, and evaluate what you need to focus on for your business model. And more specifically, to reach your target objectives. 

The cost of social marketing, my friend, is time. And remember, your time this month may mean family time, fun, and sun. But regrouping for an exceptional year-end for business is certainly on my radar. How about you?
