Still, building quality memberships or subscriptions is a little tricky, and and the experience may be disheartening the effort falls flat for creators. So let’s talk about some considerations BEFORE offering a membership or subscription program to your
audience!
Pre-Think Your Membership Plan
1- What content will you offer (or not) exclusively to subscribers? Besides the type of content, think about the format,
frequency, and whether you will offer tiers or levels of membership. Also, decide on what content fits each level. When producing content types, (audio, video, newsletter, graphics, etc.) think about the format your audience most expects along with where you most excel.
2- What delivery method
and/or platform will you use to deliver your content to members/subscribers? Not all platforms are equally strong for all content types. Perhaps a subscriber doesn’t use the platform you plan to use for content delivery.
This is one of the challenges I experience with my "Patron Only" private Facebook group. This works
great for most of my Patrons but it just so happens that some of my Patrons aren’t on Facebook.
On the other hand, maybe the content you deliver will be a platform-specific like offering a YouTube Channel Membership. Another question is whether you can livestream to your audience on whatever platform you use and this one is hard to
find, besides via YouTube. This is especially the case if you don’t have a larger platform budget.
Substack is a trending option for delivering newsletters and exclusive audio content.
But again, think of the way your viewers prefer to take in your content. Are they readers? I know I’m not…
