When you bring up the topic of AI, things can easily take off in a million directions. That’s exactly what happened at Saturday’s monthly Twitter Spaces discussion with my co-host Deborah Anderson from Social Café.  

We were joined by:

• Sue-Ann Bubacz @SueAnnBubacz 

• Gail Gardener @GrowMap

• Martin Lindeskog @LyceumPeripatos

Contrary to the scheduled topic for this conversation, “Harnessing AI to Amplify Human Creativity in Writing,” most attendees agree that writing isn’t the primary feature they look for with AI tools and software.

However, everyone agreed that AI for writing and a whole array of other things is helpful for creative digital content creation.

To prove the point and test one of my favorite AI tools, I used Perplexity.ai to research the topic, and here are the six top results I share for the event: 

1- idea generation & inspiration 

2- enhanced research capabilities 

3- drafting and editing 

4- overcoming writer's block  

5- collaboration and iteration 

6- maintaining artistic authenticity 

A couple of additional ideas beyond the above (skewed to the specific topic I requested) were also shared in today's conversation:  

1. Health/health monitoring applications  
2. SEO purposes 

Perplexity for Perplex Research?  

Before more Spaces chat discoveries, let's look closer at Perplexity.ai for a minute. It bills itself as follows: 

"Perplexity is the world’s first answer engine, designed to make your search experience smarter, faster, and more insightful. Ask any question, and we'll deliver a comprehensive answer backed by trusted sources."  

And hey, that got me interested. A smarter search engine experience is always on my radar and so far, I like what I'm finding and trying out with Perplexity. The first exciting feature is the ability to share and collaborate with simple ease, like this!  

Beautiful people, I hope the first thing you notice is this ⬇️⬇️: 

Yesss, you can ask a follow-up question and begin exploring immediately! Woot... 

But there's more too. For instance, I hope you noted the sources are shown at the top after the inquiry, before the result. Also, notice that the first resource it cites is the Harvard Business Review, a trustworthy source and a good sign to me! 

I'm playing with Perplexity and you can too, but a few other features immediately stand out. Once you sign in, three key area labels are shown on the right side of the dash. 

Home, Discover, and Library.  

If you click on the document I shared above from my search for the Spaces chat topic, you'll see it in your Library ready to access. Everything conveniently lands in your library to pull out again. 

Discover is a nice addition to the latest news and trending topics feed. I feel the articles lean toward tech trends, but the variety of intriguing topics may surprise you. And they're sharable for social media use, or to save for topic research. At the bottom of the article you get related links, and further reading below takes you deeper into your research.  

And in every section, every page, or article, you can ask further questions, allowing you to interact with any piece, as desired. Go as deep as you like.  

Home takes you to a new "thread" or a fresh search space. I love the ideas shown for you, particularly the topic, "What is Perplexity?" How about that, your how-to guide is elegantly delivered right to you. Cool!  

Further, you can organize your “threads” into Collections for related searches, topics, or ideas. Collections are also sharable.
